The SOCAN Song Prize announces its finalists

The 16 finalists – eight in French and eight in English – for the SOCAN Song Prize were announced on Thursday, shining a spotlight on the talent of emerging songwriters.

The selection of these songs, which shaped the year 2022, was ensured by a vote of music industry experts and specialist journalists.

The public can vote up to once a day from November 9th to 16th. The winning songs will be announced on November 20th.

The grand prize for each of the components, French and English (this is called the SOCAN Songwriting Prize), receives a scholarship of $10,000, a Yamaha brand musical instrument with a maximum value of $2,500 and a gift card valued at $10,000 $500 Long & McQuade.

Here are the eight finalist songs for the SOCAN Song Prize:

  • “Where I Come From” – written by Simon Bolduc; executed crookedly by Bolduc.
  • “Lesbienne Woke Up on Autotune” – written by Julie Gagnon and Charles Gaudreau-Lerhe; performed by Calamine.
  • “Tintagel” – written by Lysandre Ménard; performed by Lysandre.
  • “C00N” – written by Shamyr Daléus and Nicholas Craven; performed by Raccoon; published by Disques RER Inc.
  • “Stirring up the dilemma” – written by Rose-Emmanuelle Brassard, Joannie Michaud and Frédéric Levac; performed by Rosie Valland; published by Secret City Publishing.
