The soldier who was seriously injured last week after his vehicle overturned on the N-122 national road near Langa de Duero (Soria) has died. The soldier remained in hospital in Burgos, where he was transferred after the truck in which he was traveling with a colleague overturned and fell down a six-meter-high embankment. The driver of the car died the same day as a result of the impact when it veered off the road. The N-122 is one of the most dangerous roads in Spain due to its irregular terrain. The deceased was in the army and was returning to his base in Galicia after maneuvers in Zaragoza.

The army reported the death on Thursday afternoon via the social network X, formerly Twitter. “It is with deep sadness that we inform you that Sergeant Raúl Molina Descalzo, assigned to the artillery group of the Galicia VII Brigade, was injured in the road accident on October 19, when one of the trucks returning from the brigade overturned. . GAMMA AZOR 23 sadly passed away today,” they posted. In the message, he expressed his condolences and support to family, friends and colleagues. Molina, 24, was co-piloting Iván Mejuto, 37, the driver of the truck and also died. More information
The accident occurred at kilometer point 244.70 of this route towards Valladolid, near the town of Langa de Duero in Soria, as announced by the government sub-delegation in Soria. The convoy, made up of trucks carrying light vehicles and tanks, had left the Aragonese capital hours earlier for Galicia and consisted of up to 400 logistics and combat support units. The municipal area in which the traffic accident occurred has steep climbs and descents as well as curves. The Soria fire department had to intervene to rescue the two army personnel from the cabin who were badly hit by the impact. Paramedics confirmed Mejuto’s death and took his partner to Burgos hospital by ambulance. The deceased had completed 15 days of target practice in Zaragoza with his comrades, joint maneuvers in detachments like his, and they hoped to arrive at their military base in Figueirido (Pontevedra) the next day.
This accident is in addition to the numerous regular accidents on the N-122, a route 567 that connects the east and west of Castile and León from Portugal to Aragon. Less than half of the route has been converted into a motorway, the A-11, despite promises of investment and work on several occasions over the last 30 years. The road becomes particularly dangerous in autumn or winter due to poor visibility, curves or changes in the gradient of the route, wild animals crossing the road or the frequent rain and fog during this time.
