The South Korean record label behind BTS is holding auditions in Sydney for a “global girl group” with “female or non-binary” members
South Korea’s largest record label HYBE has teamed up with Universal Music’s Geffen Records to form a new “global girl group”.
Throughout the month they will be holding auditions across Europe, Asia and Australia to find members for the group.
On-site auditions will be held for Australian hopefuls on January 7th at the Brent Street Performing Arts Center in Sydney.

The online auditions have now started on December 2nd and will run until January 31st.
Women aged 15 to 19 or those who identify as female or non-binary are welcome to perform a play in their chosen category; sing, dance or rap.
HYBE has become the largest entertainment agency in South Korea thanks to the record-breaking success of their boy band BTS.
The company has continued its success with newer girl groups such as Le Sserafim and NewJeans.

NewJeans, which just launched last August, has already had two No. 1 singles in South Korea and sold 1.5 million albums.
The group features two Australian members: Danielle Marsh and Pham Hanni.
The announcement of HYBE’s new global girl group followed BTS star Jin’s preparations to begin his mandatory military training in South Korea.
As the oldest member of the group, Jin, 30, is the first member of the group to enlist in national service.

He arrived at the training base in Yeoncheon, north of Seoul, last month.
BTS is currently on hiatus after an announcement earlier this year left fans heartbroken over the K-pop juggernaut’s uncertain future.
Fans were stunned in June when BTS announced they were taking a break, citing exhaustion and pressure as well as a desire to pursue solo careers.
HYBE has also had great success with their latest girl group NewJeans (pictured), which features two Australian members
But analysts said the announcement was timed because of mandatory military service.
The septet is widely regarded as the country’s greatest cultural phenomenon ever – selling stadiums around the world and dominating the charts while raking in billions and building a global legion of fans known as ARMYs.
All able-bodied men in South Korea must serve at least 18 months in the military.
