Christal Films Productions announced Thursday that it has acquired the rights to prepare a feature film about legendary Quebec pop group Les BB. Alain DesRochers, who has signed several music videos for the group, has been chosen to direct the upcoming film.

The exclusive production agreement for the fiction was made with the families of Patrick Bourgeois and François Jean, who died in 2017 and 2020 respectively, and with Alain Lapointe, the only surviving member of the BB.

In my opinion, Les BB is undoubtedly the most popular pop-rock boy band Quebec has ever known! For us, a film about the life of the famous group is a must, as are the films about Dédé Fortin and Gerry Boulet, explained Christian Larouche, president of Christal Films, in a press release.

Alain DesRochers, who will sign the biographical film about Les BB, also directed the film about Gerry Boulet, Gerry (2011), also produced by Christal Films.

Why are you in the moon?

Aside from the working title, “Why Are You in the Moon?”, few details are currently known about the production, but the raw material is rich.

From 1989, the year of the release of their first album of the same name, the BB experienced phenomenal success in Quebec. The enthusiasm was so great that it was dubbed “BB Mania,” similar to Beatlemania.

The trio won the Félix for Group of the Year at the ADISQ Gala twice, in 1990 and 1992. After releasing four albums, they finally split up in 1994. Ten years later, the members reunited to release the album Happiness Easy.

Patrick Bourgeois, singer of the group, died of cancer in 2017, while its drummer François Jean died of natural causes in 2020.

“I am very pleased that the story of BB is being brought to the screen by the team at Christal Films,” said Ludovick Bourgeois, singer and son of Patrick Bourgeois, in a press release, as part of a tour entitled “Les BB” will also pay tribute to his father by Ludovick Bourgeois, from January 13th.

I take this opportunity to appreciate the sensitivity of Christian Larouche, who made sure to involve my family and my father's entourage, those close to François Jean and Alain Lapointe, to create a respectful and unifying film that the incredible phenomenon highlights BB's enormous impact on an entire generation.
