Swiss police found three injured people on Saturday in the city center of Schaffhausen near the German border under circumstances that are still unclear, one of whom later died.
Just after 5am (3am GMT), police were informed that “two injured people” were lying on the ground, a statement said.
The emergency services found one seriously injured man and another slightly injured man on site. “Despite the immediate resuscitation measures initiated by the police and the emergency service at Schaffhausen Hospital, the seriously injured person died on the spot,” the police said.
A third injured man was discovered a little further away
Shortly afterwards, the police discovered a third injured person not far from Schaffhausen train station, who, according to the initial findings of the investigation, was involved in the affair. He was arrested, the police said in a second press release, without providing any further information.
The police did not provide any information about the weapon used, the type of injuries or the nationality and age of the people involved.
“We cannot provide any further information at the moment as the exact course of events is still being investigated,” said the Schaffhausen cantonal police.
The facts and circumstances still need to be clarified. According to the police, the investigation promises to be “extensive and lengthy”.
