The teacher dies after being stabbed by a student in southwest France

A Spanish teacher at a school in SaintJeandeLuz, southwest France, died after being stabbed to death by a student in her classroom this Wednesday (22), local prosecutors reported.

“I can confirm that there was a knife attack and the victim just died,” prosecutor Jérôme Bourrier told AFP.

According to the fire department, the student was arrested.

The attack happened at the SaintThomas d’Aquin Catholic Institute in SaintJeandeLuz.

According to news site Actu.fr, the victim is 50 years old.

When rescuers arrived at the school, the teacher was in cardiac arrest and rescuers were unable to revive her.

The Sud Ouest newspaper reported that the victim was a Spanish teacher teaching 15yearold students. According to the publication, the attacker is 16 years old.

According to preliminary information, the perpetrator entered the classroom with a knife and violently attacked the teacher.

French Education Minister Pap Ndiaye said he was “extremely saddened” by the teacher’s death and would attend the school.

“I can hardly imagine the trauma this represents at the local level and more generally at the national level,” said government spokesman Olivier Veran.

On September 13, 2022, a 15yearold schoolboy stabbed a teacher in the throat in Caen, Normandy (North).

The 63yearold victim was released a few days later. The student was charged in late September and committed to a medical facility.
