Rio Bravo by Howard Hawks

Dean Martin, stricken by alcohol, tries to retrieve a coin that was thrown into a spittoon in a saloon. John Wayne prevents it from a huge perspective. The majestic opening of Rio Bravo draws the characters in just a few strokes. And Howard Hawks, along with Ricky Nelson and Walter Brennan, locks them up in a dirty prison for almost the entire length of the film. There are four heroes who guard a prisoner and wait for the threat from outside. In Río Bravo there are no grasslands, no plains, no air. In it live tired and wounded, suffocated characters who just want to survive.
