The hearing, which began this morning before the Basse-Terre Assizes, is taking place behind closed doors. The court ruled in spite of the civil parties’ request for publication.

The facts happened on February 24, 2021 in Wonche Baie-Mahault at the home of Séverine Rambhojan.

The 34-year-old victim died of a stab wound in his neck after trying in vain to fend off his attacker, as evidenced by the three wounds on his arms.

For almost four months, the gendarmes of the research department will carefully examine all possible leads. The perpetrator, a 17-year-old neighbor, is ultimately confused by his fingerprints and the DNA evidence he left in and on the victim’s home.

To explain his actions, the defendant admitted during the hearing that his victim was sexually attracted, but added that he heard a voice urging him to take action. A thesis refuted by psychiatric experts, who, however, consider that the accused has not said everything and that “a missing scene that could explain his act more rationally” is still missing.

The defendant, who was a minor at the time of the crime, must answer the charge of murder. He faces life imprisonment.
