The Universitario de Deportes team has added another element for the 2024 season. Through its social networks, the elite institution confirmed the arrival of Segundo Portocarrero, on a season-long loan from Barcelona SC with an option to buy.
The current sovereign of Peruvian football welcomed the left-back. “The greatest champion welcomes you. Ecuadorian Segundo Portocarrero is a new player for the Universitario de Deportes and will be part of our 100th anniversary. “Let’s give up our skin for these colors!” was the Ate Club’s message.
Likewise, the player himself did not hesitate to express his satisfaction at having reached Universitario. “I am ready to wear the jersey of the most successful team in Peru. “We all have the same goal,” Portocarrero said.
Although Segundo usually plays on the left wing, he has also occasionally played on the right wing, an aspect that will be useful for “U” coach Fabián Bustos.
“The technical command needed a player in the left sector like Segundo Portocarrero. The friendlies helped us realize what we needed. It was a decision of the sports sector and we made every effort to have a player of this category,” explained Jean Ferrari, administrator of the elite institution.
