Ukraine’s foreign missions in twelve countries have already been the target of suspicious correspondence. The embassy in Vienna also received two animal eyes.
The Ukrainian embassy in Vienna received two animal eyes in the mail last Friday and filed a complaint, an embassy spokesman told the APA on Monday. He could not provide any information about the sender.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there have been a total of 21 incidents at embassies or consulates in recent weeks. In Spain, police also confiscated three suspicious envelopes from the post office. There were also alleged incidents in front of the Ukrainian ambassador’s headquarters in the Vatican and the embassies in Kazakhstan and the United States.
More recently, animal eyes on a series of package and letter bombs
Last week, several Ukrainian diplomatic missions received packages containing bloodied animal eyes. Previously, there were a series of letter bombs in Spain. A security guard at the Ukrainian embassy was slightly injured. A connection with the Russian war of aggression that has been ongoing since the end of February is suspected.
“As (Foreign Minister) Dmytro Kuleba has already noted, Ukrainian diplomats must not be intimidated and must not be defeated,” Nikolenko stressed on Facebook on Monday. “We will continue to work effectively to protect Ukraine from the enemy and our victory.”
