In the fall of 2003, Mexican television was mesmerized by the second broadcast of Big Brother VIP. The popularity was so great that even Dr. Abel Pacheco, then-President of Costa Rica, mentioned the reality show on the national channel with a single purpose: to express his support for his compatriot. Vica Andrade.

It wasn’t the first time the then-actress and presenter had caught the attention of her country. Six years earlier, when she became the face of a skinny jeans brand, she angered a group of women who demanded more modesty in their work.

Several decades have passed since these adventures, which he said are preserved in the trunk of memories. It’s not just the anecdotes he keeps under wraps, Vica too put an abrupt end to his successful career.

Virginia Argüedas (her real name) began her career on the music show Vica Hits after working as a model and host from a young age. She married Jean Paul Andrade at the age of 18, who was her agent in the middle of the show in her early days and with whom she had her first son, Sean. However, their relationship ended a few years later.

Arrived in Mexico, she was one of the headlines of Al fin de semana, a program of El Canal de las Estrellas with Jorge Muñiz and Mónica Noguera, and where she met the producer Guillermo del Bosque, her current husband and father, and three more children: Luca, Luna and Coral.

Her unique beauty, luscious curls and toned body were hard even for her to ignore and so, inspired by Gloria Trevi, she decided to publish some calendars with sensual photographs in both Costa Rica and Mexico. That in 2003, the same year he took part in Big Brother, was the last and started thinking about starting a family.

From 2004 the hostess, who had surprised us with some capsules in which she enjoyed extreme sports such as diving, surfing, skydiving and climbing, isolated herself, which, as she said, helped her to drain negative energy with the intention of breaking away from the to isolate the environment to continue her second motherhood.

He didn’t have to wait long because that same year Luca entered the life of Vica and Guillermo. In 2007 they welcomed Luna; Coral, the youngest of the family, was born in 2010.

The plan, as he recently confided, called for an absence of six months, which has turned into almost 220, or about 18 years..

“When my kids arrived, I realized that my goal wasn’t to gain fame or be in the spotlight, but that my hidden goal was to be there for my kids,” he admitted in a 2018 interview with the La Nación newspaper This decision was also based on the guilt of being the absence of the mother of her first son Sean. “It was early in my career, I think time was very important to him and I was focused on other things. Yes, back then I was fighting for my dreams, but I was very selfish and I’m not doing that.” I want to repeat it. I want to be there for her at all times. I’ve apologized (to Sean) many times,” he told the same newspaper in 2012.

Far away from forums, locations or photo shoots, Vica concentrated on her children and her home. “Sometimes it is said that when you devote yourself to the house you do nothing, but it is a difficult if rewarding task. I invest time in myself, in my children, in my husband. I have learned to get to know and appreciate myself.” To discover myself in many aspects and to grow inwardly and above all for her, for myself and to find my way and to be able to flow towards it.

During these years she also learned the art of introspection and nurtured other talents related to interior design and physical issues. At this point, she wanted to get certified in yoga, physical education, and working with children.

Fostering her inner peace has even helped her get through two difficult times with her husband.

First in 2017 when Del Bosque was diagnosed with cancer of the lymphatic system, and in 2023 when he publicly announced his decision to remove the breast implants that were beginning to affect his health.

“From being a perfectly healthy mother, to being an always happy, positive mother, to suddenly being the sickest thing in the world (…), there was no way it could have had that much impact,” she said. A few months after the surgery, she says she’s full again and forgives her body. “It’s worth considering if (any aesthetic procedure) is worth more than my health; to dare that beauty is true health and health is true beauty.”
