The US imposes new sanctions on people with ties to Russia

The United States today imposed further sanctions on Russia over the war in Ukraine. According to the Treasury Ministry’s website, the measures affect a global network consisting of a Russian commercial bank, oligarch Konstantin Malofeev and people associated with him.

“The Treasury Department can and will target those who evade, seek to evade, or assist U.S. sanctions against Russia for supporting the brutal war that Putin’s decision has caused,” Secretary of State Brian E. Nelson in a statement.

The ministry also said it will restrict visas for 635 Russians “involved in activities that threaten Ukraine’s territorial integrity and human rights abuses in prisons and unofficial detention centers in Russiancontrolled areas in the Donbass region.”

The United States has already imposed a number of measures against Russia, including an asset freeze and restrictions on imports of oil and natural gas.

The war between Russia and Ukraine today entered its 56th day, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirming that a new phase in the conflict has begun.

“As already announced, the mission in eastern Ukraine is aimed at the complete liberation of the republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. This mission will be continued, and the next phase of this special mission will begin,” said the Chancellor in an interview with “India Today”.
