Sputnik Brazil Washington has sent Ukraine more than a million rounds of Iranian ammunition that was confiscated last year, the US military said on Wednesday (4).

According to Portal, the US Central Command, which is responsible for military operations in the Middle East, said that around 1.1 million rounds of 7.62 mm caliber were sent to Kiev.

“The United States is committed to working with our allies and partners to counter the flow of lethal Iranian assistance into the region using all legal means, including U.S. and UN sanctions and interdictions,” the Central Command statement said.

For years, U.S. naval forces have been seizing weapons believed to have come from Iran and destined for Tehranbacked fighters in Yemen, often transported by fishing vessels. >>> “The fall of the president of the chamber reveals the division within the United States,” says a Mexican analyst

The US Navy reportedly captured more than a million rounds of ammunition and other Iranian weapons in the Gulf of Oman in December last year. And these very cartridges were on their way to Ukrainian territory today (4).

CONTINUED AFTER RECOMMENDATIONS

The US Congress did not include new money for Ukraine in the interim spending bill passed on Saturday (30) to keep the federal government open, underscoring the growing reluctance of some Republicans to provide funds to Kiev.

In February, the Wall Street Journal had already reported on the US intention to send weapons from Iran to Kiev, in a package that would include more than 5,000 assault rifles, 1.6 million rounds of small arms ammunition and a small number of antitank missiles and more than 7,000 proximity fuses.

However, according to the media, the delivery announced today (4) would only contain small arms.
