The Supreme Court intends to vote to repeal the 1973 law guaranteeing abortion rights in the United States. This was revealed by Politico, which received an exclusive draft from Judge Samuel Alito on the opinion of the majority of the essays. The document is a “complete and firm” rejection of the historic Roe vs. Wade verdict. “We believe that ‘Roe and Casey’ should be canceled,” reads the draft court opinion. “It is time to listen to the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the elected representatives of the people,” the document said.
The draft was finalized in February, informed sources told Politico. The four Republican-nominated justices – Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett – voted to repeal abortion rights in 2005 with Alito, also appointed by Grand Old Party President George W. Bush . The three democratic judges Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan are working on an alternative proposal, it said. It is unclear how Supreme Court President John Roberts, also appointed by Bush in 2006 and considered a moderate, will take sides.
The final decision has not yet been made and is expected between June and July.
Joe Biden has already announced his opposition to this possible High Court decision: “A woman’s right to vote is fundamental – said the American President – the Roe vs Wade judgment must not be overturned.” The government, he added, will be ready to step in as soon as the sentence is released.
