Damascus, September 28 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian Government today denounced that some permanent members of the Security Council, in particular the United States, boast of the need to respect the Charter and international law, but are scandalously violating them in Syria .
This position, carried by the press here, was expressed by the Permanent Representative of this Levantine nation to the United Nations (UN), Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, during a meeting of the Security Council dedicated to discussing political and humanitarian issues relating to Syria.
Washington has committed and will continue to commit blatant violations against Syria by illegally and unjustifiably stationing troops on national territory, supporting separatist militias and using terrorist groups to carry out acts of sabotage and provoking and prolonging the humanitarian crisis, the diplomat said.
He denounced US delegations entering northeastern Syria illegally and mentioned the recent visit by a delegation led by Ethan Goldrich, US deputy assistant secretary of state.
The North American military is plundering national wealth, stealing oil, gas and wheat and depriving Syrians of their resources, resulting in direct and indirect losses in the oil sector estimated at $115 billion, the delegate said.
Furthermore, Sabbagh said, the United States and its European allies continue to impose unilateral coercive measures that affect all vital sectors in Syria, such as food, health, energy, transportation and agricultural production, and cause unprecedented humanitarian suffering to Syrians.
Despite all these violations, however, Washington lectures at every Security Council meeting on the need to respect the United Nations Charter and the importance of defending the principles of international law, he stressed.
The diplomat also denounced the ongoing Israeli attacks, of which there have been 30 this year alone, on infrastructure, key civilian facilities and airports, and rejected the silence of some states that proclaim themselves to be protectors of international humanitarian law but are in fact complicit do and act with double standards. .
