The vase overflows in June

It has rained several times in Quebec since early June, particularly during recent storms in large quantities. Result: Several regions are currently exceeding their monthly average of received rainfall.

A well-watered month of June

Western, central and part of southern Quebec have already exceeded their June precipitation averages. In the Southwest, particularly in Gatineau and Montreal, the equivalent count is very close and should most likely be reached before the end of the month.

In contrast, the east of the province is lagging behind. In particular, the city of Gaspé shows a difference of just over 40 mm. This situation is in contrast to a few months ago, when eastern Quebec was regularly attacked by the systems. However, the storms and rain expected this weekend for the Gaspé tip could change the situation.

A record broken and another at stake

Among other things, Saguenay has accumulated 157 mm of rain between June 1 and June 17, 2022. This makes it one of the five wettest June months on record, with just 18 days elapsed! The average for this sector is usually 89 mm.

However, it is possible that this is not the only record for this region. In June 1949, Saguenay was already entitled to 188mm! With about two more weeks until the end of the month, this record could well be broken.

The rain hasn’t said its last word yet…

In addition, according to the latest data from the forecast models, decent amounts of rain are likely to fall on the province. These are likely to occur during the presence of thunderstorms that could occur even next weekend.

The presence of a ridge that will allow moisture from the United States to rise towards the province will set the stage for the creation of storm cells.
