The Vice President of Colombia considers the message of peace from the government and the ELN

“I would like to say to the ELN (…) that here is a Vice President who comes from cities that have fought, just like you, who have chosen to take up arms, we have chosen to take up the fight with resistance , ” he said.

France recalled the historic struggles of the Colombian people, especially their ancestors, against an exclusive system and an economic model that failed the majority of the population.

He also referred to the so-called global polycrisis (economy, environment, health, etc. including wars), from which his country was also suffering.

“This common fight in a way, differentiated of course, is the fight that we want to continue today but put our weapons out of the way,” he said.

He emphasized that the weapons and the war “have left only destruction (…) in Colombia, a deep pain, a wounded society, a broken society”.

“What are we doing: do we keep it or do we accept the challenge of a leadership convened by President Gustavo Petro, convened by the youth (…) who voted for a change?” he asked.

He emphasized that war snatches resources that can be invested in health, drinking water, basic foodstuffs.

She stated that as Vice-President she welcomes this new agenda aimed at placing the peace dialogue in Colombian society.

Today, the second cycle of the Dialogue Round Table completed in Mexico and the Mexico Agreement, New Agenda for Dialogue: Participation, Democracy, Transformations for Peace, which comprises several points, were signed.

The main axes are Society’s Participation in Peace-Building, Democracy for Peace, Transformations for Peace, Sacrifice, End of the Armed Conflict, General Plan for the Implementation of the Agreements Between the National Government and the ELN.
