During his stay here, Lavrov was received by General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of State Affairs Kim Jong Un and held official talks with his North Korean counterpart Choe Son Hui.
Lavrov later explained that after the “historic summit” between Kim Jong Un and President Vladimir Putin (last September), “we can say with confidence that these relations have reached a qualitatively new, strategic level.”
Shortly before his departure, he also said that Putin had asked him to reaffirm to his hosts “the willingness to fulfill everything agreed upon in his meeting with Kim” and that “the relevant work has already begun.”
Lavrov confirmed that the 10th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific and Technical Cooperation will take place in Moscow in November and that the parties have already outlined “concrete measures” to achieve the goals set by the two leaders to reach.
From September 12 to 18, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the DPRK toured weapons factories, missile, air and sea defense units in Russia, as well as space research and research centers.
Political circles and media in both countries emphasized that Kim and Putin held official and private talks in a warm atmosphere in which the good chemistry between the two was obvious.
