The Voice bosses are forced to change the show’s rules after a last-minute request from Sonia Kruger
Sonia Kruger made an urgent appeal to the producers on behalf of a contestant for a last minute audition during Sunday’s episode of The Voice.
The pivotal moment came when trainer Guy Sebastian learned the 53-year-old singer Chris Walton wanted to audition to inspire his 21-year-old daughter Shanae, who was there to cheer on her dad.
Guy asked Sonia to review the rules to see if Shanae could get a chance to sing after agreeing to audition.
Usually coaches are not allowed to audition singers after seeing their face.
Shanae’s audition was on the condition that the coaches would not know when she would be performing.
The drama began after Chris failed to turn a chair in his own audition.
He then told the coaches that he wanted to show Shanae, his eldest daughter, that she must never give up.
“My daughter is a great little singer,” he continued.
“After a few setbacks, she got a little annoyed with her singing.
“But ever since I said I was doing it and started practicing at home, she’s been going out and buying mics and everything.
“I just want to show her, ‘Hey, I’m 53, I’m having fun.’

Guy, who seemed touched by Chris’ brave admission, immediately urged Shanae to audition.
“Sometimes dad just has to try it to show you can do it, right?” Guy told her.
While Sonia was on the phone with the producers to check if Shanae’s last-minute audition could go ahead, Guy tried to calm the singer’s nerves.
Guy Sebastian asked Sonia Kruger if it was possible to change the rules for Shanae
“And remember, even if you don’t get a chance, that doesn’t mean it’s just another loss and then you give up,” he continued.
“Just taking the heat and pressure off in case we don’t go for you!” he joked.
After getting the producer’s approval, Shanae delivered a stunning audition that turned all four chairs.
Judge Jason Derulo gushed, “You absolutely nailed it.”
