“The Voice”: Paul Daraîche's son surprises Mario Pelchat – Le Journal de Montréal

Dan Daraîche is naturally shy and has been performing for years with his family and his famous father, country singer Paul Daraîche. By participating The voice, Where all the trainers turned around at his blind audition on Sunday, he wants to come out of his shell and tackle his own projects.

To break the ice, the 31-year-old young man from Terrebonne performed “When I Need,” a piece by his father, on Sunday. The latter attended his performance together with his wife Johanne Dubois and the presenter Charles Lafortune. He had never heard this version from his son and, like Dan's mother, couldn't hold back a few tears.

Mario Pelchat, who knows the Daraîche well and had recently shared the stage with Dan, was the first to turn his chair and laugh when he spotted who was in the spotlight.

Dan Daraîche emphasizes that it was “a fight against…” [lui]-even” to go to the blind auditions. He chose Mario Pelchat – who was also moved during the performance – because they knew each other well and were able to start working quickly.

“We’re going toward the devil we know,” Dan joked in an interview.

“Your voice is just like your father's, I'm crazy!” said the coach, who confided that at the age of 15 he went to see Paul Daraîche at a performance and asked him for advice. “And now his son is on my team at La Voix!”

Fifteen years on stage

Dan Daraîche, who grew up touring, began performing on stage with his father at the age of 16 as a drummer.
“Then I finally got out of the way and started singing in 2015 or 2016. At first I really didn't feel like singing. Because of the circumstances, I started to like it. I'm scared, shy, it took me a lot of courage to go to La Voix or even sing with my family. I didn’t want to take up too much space, I felt comfortable on the drums and kept a low profile.”

In 2018, Dan participated in his father's opus “My favorite house” with his sisters Émilie and Katia and can be heard on the album and in the tribute show “Dynasty Country” to his late aunt Julie Daraîche.

Paul Daraîche and his now deceased brother Antonio worked hard to convince Dan to try his luck at La Voix. “My godfather Antonio urged me to go there. “Deny yourself!” that’s what he told me. He died before I could tell him I was doing The Voice. I did it a bit much for him.”
