The confetti was still littering the floor of the big set of La Voix, Sunday night, which Sophie Grenier was already thinking about. Beneath her sweet and fragile looks, the 17-year-old knows what she wants. “It’s really music I want to make in my life, I’m so happy,” she confided to agency QMI. I want to get to work on making my album as soon as possible. I know myself quite well as an artist and with the experience of La Voix I know myself even better.

For this upcoming album, she wants to write songs that describe them and what they look like, in addition to her version of L’oiseau, a song that sparked the buzz of the public around her.

Different styles

Before appearing on the show, Sophie Grenier released Escape, a four-song EP in English.

“I worked with an English-speaking producer, so doing it in French was difficult. But of course I want my album to be in French only. Mario Pelchat has his own record company within Musicor, I think he will be able to help me with that.

While she mainly interpreted relatively quiet songs in her career, she would like to explore other styles in the future. “When I first started singing, I kept myself in a more rocking register. One of the first songs I performed was Zombie by The Cranberries. I also listened to a lot of Imagine Dragons. Then I turned to the walks, because that’s my forte. There may be surprises in my file.”

Fairly reserved about life, she trusts music to help her express and express herself.

“When I step onto a stage and start singing, I feel completely at ease. The stage is my home.”

Parental Support

Although her parents were a little apprehensive when she said she wanted to pursue a career in music, Sophie Grenier has their unwavering support.

“When I started taking singing lessons, they wondered if it was worth it. But they realized that singing was really what I wanted to do.”

The young woman is currently in the 12th grade (equivalent to the first year of CEGEP in Ontario) and is confident about her future.

“I hope I manage to finish my year. It’s going to be difficult to focus on, but I think I should get there. My school is behind me and supporting me, we will find a way to make it work.

An admiring coach

Mario Pelchat is full of praise for his protégé, whom he invited to sing at his winery in the summer.

The two have had a new thing in common since Sunday.

“She’s only 17, that’s when I started. Like them, I won my first competition at the same age, everything is in everything.
