Do you know about single view photos and videos on WhatsApp? This very practical but little-known feature allows you to share sensitive content that is deleted after viewing without leaving a trace, similar to Snapchat! This can be a somewhat compromising image, a joke, intimate content, a code or a photo taken on the spot, in short: “disposable” files. Once your recipient opens the photo or video to view it, once the media is closed, it will be deleted and they will no longer be able to view it again. If they want to watch it again, a notification will inform them that the content has expired and they should ask you to send it to them a second time.
In addition, it is not possible to share, save or take a screenshot of it in this mode. Please note that single-view photos and videos are different from ephemeral messages, which are deleted after a specific period of time between 24 hours and 90 days. But
WhatsApp could give more importance to this type of content. In fact, Instant Messaging is working on a new messaging menu that will allow sending images and videos in single view, as noted by the specialized website WABetaInfo in beta version 2.23.18.3 of the Android application.
A new menu
Currently, to set a photo or video as visible only once, you must attach an image or take a photo in chat. Then, before sending, you must press the small symbol in the shape of a 1 in the circle on the right in the area reserved for the label. But with the next version, thanks to a new messaging menu, you can do this by holding down the send button, the little green arrow at the bottom right of the screen. A new menu will then appear where you can choose whether you want to send the image or video once as a visible message. Be careful though, this doesn’t work for GIFs.
WhatsApp is constantly adding new features to attract users and cope with competition. With instant messaging you can now send photos and videos in HD and share your screen in real time during video calls. And she has no plans to stop! Meta, the parent company that also owns Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, is currently working on new text editing and formatting features for WhatsApp and uses AI within the application to create its own stickers with a simple text command.
