The Witcher director Marc Jobst hints that Henry Cavill may have left the Netflix series because his relentless work ethic was taking a huge toll: “These are demanding shows.”

Less than a month after the final episodes of Henry Cavill’s Netflix series The Witcher aired, director Mark Jobst opens up about his exit.

Cavill, 40, played Geralt of Rivia in the first three seasons of the popular Netflix series based on the popular book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.

However, he announced in October 2022 that he would be leaving the series after season three, with Liam Hemsworth taking his place.

While many speculated his exit was due to his brief return as Superman in last year’s Black Adam … before those plans were scrapped by new DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, Jobst has a different theory.

The director, who directed two episodes of the show’s first season, believes sheer exhaustion and his unrelenting work ethic may also have contributed to his exit.

“Well, look, Henry has done three series, these are demanding shows, you know, they’re huge.” “Henry does every single punch of his stunts, he doesn’t even allow a hand. If you take a close-up of a hand grasping a sword, it has to be his hand,” Jobst explained.

“So usually you bring in a double, Henry goes off and does another scene where he’s in somewhere else, and you get your hands on someone else so you don’t have to worry about number one. “Henry won’t do that, and that’s why the results are exceptional,” admitted Jobst.

“You’re working first and foremost with an incredible athlete who trains hours before and hours after you’ve shot 12 hours and who really cares about the work he’s doing,” he added.

Jobst explained that the two episodes he worked on during the first season were filmed in four different countries, adding that Cavill spent weeks rehearsing sword fighting scenes.

“That weighs on your number one, so after three series I’m like, ‘Okay, he created the show, and if he feels like he did what he could, I trust him,'” Jobst said .

“That focus that he has, that desire to get it right, is a gift to work with because it makes everyone say, ‘Good enough isn’t good enough. It has to be amazing.” “We all want to work that way, we all don’t want to do something good, we want to create something incredible,” he affirmed.

It seems fans aren’t too pleased about Henry Cavill stepping down from his beloved role as Geralt of Rivia on Netflix series The Witcher, as the final episodes of the show’s third season are now the lowest-rated in history of the series are.

A report from What’s On Netflix released in late July reveals that the last three episodes, released last Thursday, received the lowest ratings from fans on IMDb.

The declining ratings also caused season 3’s overall average to drop to the point that it was by far the lowest-rated season.

In terms of IMDb ratings, the show was already on the downtrend, although the last three episodes of Season 3 are by far the show’s worst.

The sixth episode actually recovered somewhat with a 7.0 rating, the season’s highest rating, down from 6.0, 5.4, and 5.7 for the previous three episodes.

However, the show drastically slipped to a new low, with the penultimate seventh episode earning a 4.3 rating, which was low on the series.

The eighth and final episode of season three bounced back slightly with a rating of 5.3, bringing its season average (an average of individual episode ratings) to 5.8.

That’s well below the average rating of 8.3 in Season 1 and the average rating of 8.0 in Season 2.
