The Worst 2023 Award: Who are the footballers nominated for Worst Player of the Year?

Lionel Messi won The Best as the best soccer player in the world. Contrasting with this award is The Worst, which rewards the worst of the year.

The presentation of “The Best” awards took place on Monday 27th February and included the Argentines as Lionel Messi, Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez and Lionel Scaloni received the trophies for best player, best goalkeeper and best, respectively coaches won. But it was also released The worst, which is the opposite version of that award — like the Oscars that the Razzies have. For this reason, the newspaper Marca de España has nominated the footballers who have shown poor performance in recent months.

In addition, the medium considers the high salary of the players, their questionable election campaign or a “disastrous world” to be possible. Because of this, players were nominated whose performance left something to be desired. It should be noted that the most important tournaments in Europe are taken into account, such as LaLiga, Premier League, Serie A and Bundesliga. The nominees are the following:

  • Joachin Andersen (Norway) – Crystal Palace
  • Harry Maguire (Inglaterra) – Manchester United
  • Kalidou Koulibaly (France) – Chelsea FC
  • Joe Gomez (England) – Liverpool
  • Nicolo Zaniolo (Italy) – AS Roma
  • Tiemoue Bakayoko (France) – AC Milan
  • Kalvin Phillips (Inglaterra) – Manchester City
  • Eden Hazard (Belgium) – Real Madrid
  • Pierre Aubameyang (Gabon) – Chelsea
  • Kasper Dolberg (Denmark) – Hoffenheim
  • Lucas Moura (Brazil) – Tottenham
  • Dele Alli (England) – Besiktas.
