According to some French media, writer Frédéric Beigbeder was released from prison on Tuesday after being accused of rape.
The famous French author was taken into custody for the first time on Tuesday in police custody in Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) as part of an investigation into rape and was finally officially charged.
The 58-year-old writer, who has lived with his family in the Basque Country for several years, had been questioned since 9 a.m. as part of an investigation, prosecutor Rodolphe Jarry told AFP, confirming information from the newspaper La République des Pyrénées.
The judge did not give the reason for the detention, he simply pointed out that it was not a drug case.
In 2008, Frédéric Beigbeder was arrested in Paris for cocaine use and possession. He made his mea culpa in a June 2022 column in Obs, in which he said he had “said goodbye to Coke,” which had become “a drug for old nerds,” and “with ease, sober and on an empty stomach write”.
