The New York Yankees finally ended their nine-game losing streak on Wednesday night with a lopsided 9-1 home win over the Washington Nationals.
Aaron Judge was instrumental in that success with three home runs, including a grand slam in the second inning that gave the Bronx Bombers a 6-0 lead. See it in the video above.
It’s the first time in his career that Judge has hit as many home runs in a game and his second six RBIs since his major league debut.
DJ LeMahieu also hit the long ball for the Yankees. Anthony Volpe and Everson Pereira provided the further points for the winners.
In the Nationals camp, Dominic Smith avoided the shutout with a solo home run in the ninth inning.
The win went to starting pitcher Luis Severino (3-8), who only allowed one run in six and two-thirds of an innings at the mound. He had lost his last four starts.
On Tuesday, the Yankees had reached a new peak of mediocrity. It was the first time they’d had a backhand streak that long in nearly 41 years.
