Theater Massini wins Tony Award for best work with Lehman Trilogy

The Tuscan author’s work was recognized in New York during the ceremony, which came after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic

Lehman Trilogy, Stefano Massino’s opera in three acts adapted by Ben Power and directed by Sam Mendes, emerged as the best Tony Award-winning play. Oscar winner Ariana DeBose was the presenter on stage. The star was honored for Best Supporting Actress last March, becoming the first gay black actress to win the precious statuette. In addition to Best Play, the play also won four other categories: Best Actor in a Play, Simon Russell Beale Award, Best Director, Sam Mendes Award, Best Set Design at Es Devlin, Best Lighting Design at Jon Clark. The Lehman trilogy, which received a Tony with eight nominations, opened in 2013 at the Come’die de Saint-E’tienne in Saint-E’tienne in French translation, the Italian debut in 2015 at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan director Luca Ronconi’s latest project . It premiered in New York at the Nederlander Theater in October 2021, after being postponed for more than a year due to the pandemic and closing last January. The work becomes a TV series for the world market, produced by Domenico Procacci’s Fandango.
