The new The Lightning It’s the celebration of DC history that fans have always wanted to see. With dozens of cameo appearances and the use of the concept of the multiverse to play with the history of superheroes in cinemas over the last several decades, the film entertains and pleases, despite some very annoying problems in the final cut.
For this very reason, there is tremendous curiosity among fans to check out this story despite the promise to end the former DC Extended Cinematographic Universe (DCEU, its acronym in English) and set the stage for the reboot proposed by James Gunn and Peter Safran for these characters. And while many people have already seen the film in theaters, many others are wondering: when The Lightning Premieres on HBO Max?
Considering the studio’s history with the platform and recent statements from Warner Bros. executives, the good news is that it shouldn’t be long before the production can be seen in the comfort of your own home.
When The Flash comes to streaming
There is no exact date for this yet The Lightning Come to HBO Max. But that doesn’t mean there’s no anticipation as to when that will happen — not least because Warner itself has taken pains to predict when longtime leads Ezra Miller and Michael Keaton will hit streaming.
During a company presentation last April discussing HBO Max’s transformation into Max, the studio anticipated the film’s digital release would come in the final quarter of 2023. This means that between the months of September and December, The Flash will be roaming the platform grappling with the varied realities of the catalogue.
Sounds like a lot, but it’s within the 90day window that distributors maintain between the theatrical release of their projects and their subsequent streaming release. Taking that into account The Lightning With the film hitting theaters around the world on June 15th, one can imagine that it will be available by the second half of September.
At the same time, the fact that this gap is much longer than what Warner has adopted for other films, particularly superhero films, is striking. So much black adam how much Shazam! God’s Wrath were released to platform subscribers within a window of just 60 days.
It is not yet clear whether the change with The Lightning It is due to the fact that the studio trusts Ezra Miller’s film more or whether the poor performance of previous feature films has caused the company to anticipate the release of these films.
