These are the 10 cheapest places in the US to buy a beach house

Realtor.com has found the US cities where buyers can find the cheapest waterfront homes.

Whether you’re buying your first home or looking to invest in a rental property, it’s important to consider where you’re getting the most bang for your buck.

In May, Realtor.com ranked the US cities where buyers can find the cheapest waterfront homes.

And while places like the Hamptons and Malibu don’t make the list, the beach towns that made it range from small communities to big cities.

To rank each city, Realtor.com has rolled up its listing data for every home released within a mile of a beach in the past year, finding the cheapest by price per square foot and the Locations listed at least 50 objects.

Gulfport, Mississippi is the cheapest city to buy a beach house in according to Realtor.com.

  • Gulfport, Mississippi is the cheapest city to buy a beach home in. It is about halfway between Mississippi’s Louisiana and Alabama borders and has 26 miles of beachfront on the Gulf of Mexico.

    According to Realtor.com, the median selling price of a home within a mile of the beach is $224,900, with the median price per square foot within a mile of the beach being $144.

    Gulfport offers its residents a beautiful blend of small town community and city living. It has become a tourist hub thanks to its fishing charters and boat charters, and the fact that it is adjacent to the casino city of Biloxi.

    Newport News, Virginia is home to beaches on both the Atlantic Ocean and the James River.

    Newport News, Virginia ranked second on the list. Located on the southern tip of the Virginia Peninsula, the city is approximately 25 miles from historic Jamestown.

    The city of Virginia is home to beaches on both the Atlantic Ocean and the James River. If you’re willing to drive for oceanfront options, Newport News is also about 40 miles from Virginia Beach, the best in the state, according to Realtor.com.

    In Newport News, the average price within a mile of the beach is $200,000 and the average price per square foot within a mile of the beach is $150.

    Third on the list is New London, Connecticut. It boasts one of the state’s best public beaches, Ocean Beach Park, which sits on Long Island Sound.

    The average price within a mile of the beach in New London is $257,000, while the average price per square foot within a mile of the beach is $175.

    “New London is like a little gem of affordability,” Keith Turner, mortgage lender at Homestead Funding, told Realtor.com. “Just look at the prices in some cities around here.”

    In Mystic, Connecticut, just about 15 minutes’ drive from New London, beachfront homes are for sale for more than triple the price per square foot, with an average asking price of $544,500, according to Realtor.com.

    New London is an authentic port city that offers classic New England flair without being an overly popular tourist destination.
