“There are 25 people who already have a current arrest warrant that is still in effect. There are 25 criminals responsible for various murders, thefts (crimes) and extortions. There is even a person with a double murder that occurred last year, on June 17, 2023,” explained the director of the Bogotá Public Prosecutor’s Office, Leonor Merchán.
General José Daniel Gualdrón, for his part, noted that the authorities have continuously taken measures to combat crime. “This weekend, 700 police officers were deployed to carry out preventive and operational measures across the city. It is a comprehensive response to extortion plans, special beacon plans, special mass seizure plans and air patrols,” the police commander explained.
In addition, the police department announced further measures in this matter, such as the arrival of 100 more new officers in the capital. “It is an anti-theft search block that will have investigative but also preventative capacities. We investigate the criminal economies of these criminals who generate thefts and facilitate real estate, thereby facilitating the purchase and marketing of stolen items,” he explained.
