These cities could face their first heatwave of the year

Southwest Quebec residents who haven’t already should install their air conditioning and open their pool over the weekend as the first 30 degrees of the season are on the province’s doorstep.

Although the first heat wave may seem like a mirage to Quebecers, who endured a gray and cold day on Wednesday, mercury will actually rise over the next few days until it surpasses the symbolic 30 degree mark by Sunday or Monday.

According to the latest forecasts from Environment Canada, Montreal residents will be entitled to a temperature of 29C on Sunday, followed by days of 31C and 33C on Monday and Tuesday.

The scenario should be practically identical in Sherbrooke and Quebec.

However, it is the northern sectors that are expected to be the hottest at the start of the week, with days of 33 and 34°C expected in Val-D’Or on Monday and Tuesday, versus 31 and 34°C in Saguenay.

In general, expect a nice, albeit cooler, weekend throughout Quebec. In Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie, the rain that will characterize the next few days will end on Friday evening and the sun will follow with temperatures between 20 and 25°C.

The north coast is also entitled to a sunny weekend, but the mercury will have a harder time surpassing the 20C mark.
