(CNN) – A Nevada rapper was arrested on murder charges after Las Vegas police said he “confessed to the murder in the lyrics (of his song).”
Kenjuan McDaniel was arrested Aug. 29 on a charge of open homicide with a deadly weapon, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release. His bail was set at $1 million Thursday with electronic monitoring, according to court records.
CNN attempted to reach McDaniel’s attorney for comment but did not receive a response.
McDaniel was considered a person of interest in the death of Randall Wallace, which occurred on September 18, 2021, due in part to his connection to a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle used during the crime. This emerges from an arrest warrant from CNN affiliate KVVU.
In July, an investigator found a music video posted by McDaniel on YouTube and reviewed the text and details of the warrant: “Investigators determined that the music video bore a sufficient degree of similarity to the details of the murder. This also includes the fact that Kenjuan confessed to the murder in his texts. The details provided by Kenjuan in his music video have not been released and would not be in the public domain.
One of the letters on the order reads: “Park the car, get back up, the smartest way to slide, drive, double lock the man, make sure you catch your body.” The theme song also contains details of the murder that have not been made public. According to the warrant, when McDaniel tapped on the video, he recreated elements of the murder that were “consistent with the evidence at the crime scene.”
“The facts gathered during the investigation were obtained independently of the music video. The video further confirmed the findings of the investigation,” the official report concluded.
McDaniel has a preliminary hearing scheduled for this Thursday.
