They beheaded a 15-year-old girl: three teenage girls arrested in Guatemala
Three teenage girls were arrested Friday night for beheading a 15-year-old girl.
Three young girls, aged 14 to 17, members of the Barrio 18 gang, were arrested in the Guatemalan capital when they beheaded a 15-year-old girl, police said on Saturday.
The minors were “discovered beheading a 15-year-old girl” in a building in northern Guatemala City on Friday night, police spokesman Jorge Aguilar told reporters.
“Police officers patrolling the area heard screams and immediately searched the building where the calls for help were coming from,” the spokesman said.
The victim died at the scene of the crime
“They entered the building when the crime was being committed: one of them was holding the victim and the other was filming with his mobile phone,” added the spokesman, specifying that despite the police officers’ intervention, the victim died at the scene. The motive for the crime was still unknown at the time.
The Barrio 18 gang, like their rival Mara Salvatrucha, specialize in extorting businesses and bus companies and murdering employees who refuse to pay the amount demanded.
Gangs and drug trafficking are responsible for around 50% of the 3,500 violent deaths recorded in Guatemala each year.
