Activist Rosa María Payá assured today in Brussels that the presence of leader Miguel Díaz-Canel at the European Union-Latin America Summit was “a shame for the European Union” and thanked her for supporting the conclusions of the International Summit. American Human Rights Commission on the murder of his father Oswaldo Payá.

“There are thousands of victims of this dictatorship, dozens of them after the assassination of my father and Harold Cepero. Díaz-Canel’s presence in this city is a disgrace to the European Union. Not only because it is morally inexplicable, but because it is directly contrary to the interests of the European peoples,” said the president of the Cuba Decide organization.

Payá recalled that the Cuban regime “is the gateway for Russia and China into Latin America and an ally of Vladimir Putin in the war of aggression against Ukraine.”

“In other words, in aggression against Europe. “If you allow the Cuban oppressors to become intermediaries between CELAC and the European Union, Europe will be at a great disadvantage,” he said.

The press conference on Cuba Decide was attended by MEPs Antonio López-Istúriz (People’s Party), Anna Fotyga (Conservatives and Reformists) and José Ramón Bauzá (Renewal of Europe), and Erik Cartelle from the Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba.

“The Cuban people must be free. Free from hunger. Free from torture. Free from oppression and above all free from Díaz-Canel. Today the whole world knows where Díaz-Canel is, but no one knows where José Daniel Ferrer is, imprisoned and tortured in a prison,” said José Ramón Bauzá.

For the Liberal legislator, Article 85 of the Havana-Brussels Political Dialogue Agreement applies due to its non-compliance.

“We haven’t made a single breakthrough. For this very reason, the European Union cannot remain inactive in the face of the violation of this agreement by the Cuban dictatorship. We demand the activation of Article 85 to hold the dictatorship accountable,” Bauzá demanded.
