Brussels, July 7 (Prensa Latina) Representatives of the Brussels 2023 People’s Summit today called for a constructive and unconditional dialogue between the European Union (EU) and Latin America and the Caribbean ahead of the forum to be hosted by the two regions.

A delegation from the People’s Summit delivered a policy statement to representatives of the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) on behalf of the social, political and trade union organizations participating in the July 17-18 meeting. who will meet in that capital on the same days.

The text underlines the importance of the EU-Celac summit for deepening bilateral relations “in a fair manner and without conditions imposed by third countries”.

In this sense, they endorsed the contribution of the Forum of Heads of State or Government to end the militaristic escalation that the planet is currently experiencing to resolve conflicts within the framework of the UN Charter.

They also defended dialogue at the service of the peoples of both continents and rejected the use of extraterritorial coercive measures, which they denounced as violations of human rights, international law and trade regulations.

Countries like Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela are facing blockades and hostile actions by the United States that are having serious economic repercussions. Regarding the Brussels People’s Summit 2023, the delegation emphasized that this forum will meet at the Free University of Brussels to discuss climate justice, external debt, social struggles and their criminalization, peace diplomacy and other issues.

More than 140 political, social and solidarity organizations from 22 countries will take part in the event, he stressed.

The policy statement was handed over to Dries Merre from the Cabinet of the Belgian Ministry for Development Cooperation and to Diani Jimesha Prince, Representative of the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines and interim President of Celac.
