A man and a little girl were rescued after the car they were traveling in fell into a pool in North Lauderdale, Florida last Friday.
The 76-year-old man who owns the home where the pool is located and a passing detective removed the occupants from the car, Channel 7 News Miami reported.
The incident occurred Friday afternoon at Southgate Boulevard and Southwest 71st Avenue after the driver of a silver Ford Explorer crashed into a wooden fence and landed in the pool.
“We heard a huge crunching sound. “I thought the lightning hit the side of the house,” he said. “I went up to look and it looked like a tidal wave right on the other side of my pool,” said homeowner William Marts.
As he entered the pool, he noticed the driver was “breathing.” He was drooling, but at least he was breathing” and that “there was a little girl in the back seat of the car.”
The owner and detective broke the Explorer’s window and pulled out the driver and girl, who were then taken by paramedics to the hospital for treatment and are expected to recover.
Hours later, dive teams suspended the SUV in the Marts pool, which was just five feet deep, lifted it up and took it away.
William Marts also had to go to the hospital because he suffered from high blood pressure.
The owner said he’s tired of cars crashing onto his property and now his wife and granddaughter need more done.
“We have been asking for a concrete fence with some rebar as a barrier for years,” his wife said.
