Universitario (24 points) saved a draw at home against Piura after a 2-0 defeat by Alianza Atlético. The result didn’t sit well with the Creams, however, as the tie puts them away from the top spots in the Clausura tournament, which is led by Sporting Cristal by 28 points.
For the meringues, the panorama seems bleak as they still have a date to rest. Also, they have to play matches with direct rivals who are at the top of the table.
In the following note we share with you the results Universitario needs to win the tournament and aim for title number 27 at the end of the year.

The university has to win all its games
Although most clubs have six games left, Universitario still have five games to go because they are sidelined in one day. Of the duels that are missing, two are against direct competitors for the Clausura fight. On the 15th they visit Sporting Cristal and on the 16th they host FBC Melgar.

What results do you need from your other competitors?
Sporting Cristal – 28 points
The Sky Blues need to lose at least two games for the ‘U’ to beat them in the end. The rivals the Rimenses would drop points against would be against the ‘U’ and Alianza Atlético in Sullana. They also expect a tough home game against Atlético Grau, who are also aiming for the Clausura victory.

Lima Alliance – 27 points
The blue and white team is another team that needs to lose at least two games to give up their place to the compadre. The rivals that could complicate their game would be César Vallejo, Cienciano and Ayacucho FC. All of these meetings are visits.

Atletico class – 27 points
Unlike the Creams’ other competitors, Gray is likely to lose at least one game as he still has a date to rest. The team from Piura has the same number of games remaining as the ‘U’ so a drop would be enough for the Meringues to overcome them. Let’s remember that the Northerners have to play against Sporting Cristal (visit) and Melgar (local).

Melgar – 25 points
The ‘Domino also needs to lose two games for Universitario to benefit. Exactly, one of the duels that Ate is missing is against the Arequipeños. If the team led by Carlos Compagnucci won, it would only be enough for Melgar to get negative results.
