Even if this is avoidable, the lack of basic services could lead to a tragic increase in child mortality in Gaza and a massive outbreak of disease, UN humanitarian organizations warned this Tuesday.

Since October 7 last year, after Hamas’ attacks on this country, about 160 young people die every day in this Palestinian strip, which means that every 10 minutes one of them dies and two are injured, while their families are in terrible situations trapped are circumstances, they said of this organization.

If restrictions on access to water and sanitation remain in place in Gaza, there will be a tragic but completely avoidable increase in the number of children dying, UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) spokesman James Elder stressed.

World Health Organization (WHO) spokesman Christian Lindmeier said that around 180 babies were born in the Gaza Strip every day and that more than 20 of them required special care, especially premature and low-weight babies. at Al-Shifa Hospital, where a UN mission was able to evacuate 31 of them over the weekend.

Lindmeier reported that less than half of Gaza’s hospitals and clinics are now at full capacity and announced that WHO is continuing plans to evacuate the 200 patients and 50 health workers still at the hospital center.

Commenting on this situation, he noted that it had become so serious that the only alternative to evacuation was to face certain death.

According to the WHO, thousands of injured and seriously ill people live in Gaza, illnesses such as diarrhea and respiratory infections are on the rise and there are shortages of water, fuel, food, electricity or medical supplies.

So far, around 72,000 cases of respiratory infections have been reported in refugee accommodation, as well as 49,000 cases of diarrhea, more than half of them in children under five.
