Thief calls the police when he breaks in

A 40-year-old who commits thefts out of boredom called the police when he injured his knee during an attempted robbery in Tielt in the West Flanders region of Belgium.

According to Belgian media 7Sur7, the burglar was sentenced to 20 months in prison on Thursday, while the prosecutor had requested 30 months.

The facts date back to June last year, when the suspect, who seemed bored, went to a company to steal a forklift from a hangar that was still open.

While climbing the gate of the facility, the forty-year-old fell and broke his leg before calling the police and emergency services.

Three months earlier, the repeat offender had called the police when he injured his elbow while breaking into his neighbor's house.

During his trial, the prosecutor noted that the defendant, Tuur S., had already been convicted of theft several times, according to the Belgian media.

In particular, he was sentenced to two years of conditional probation for breaking into a bicycle shop, it said.
