Thieves steal 10000 liters of olive oil from a company

An oil production company in Barcelona has reported the theft of 10,000 liters, just as the so-called liquid gold – depending on the brand – exceeds 14 euros per liter. The company that fell victim to the robbery is Olis Bargalló de Castellví in Rosanes (Barcelona). The crime happened early Monday morning. “The criminals managed to break into our facilities in the Castellví de Rosanaes industrial area and, in addition to the safe, stole almost 10,000 liters of olive oil,” said a company spokesman. The CEO of the sector, Francesc Bargalló, assures that the losses amount to more than 70,000 euros.

The events took place on the night of Sunday to Monday, January 29th. According to the company, the criminals entered the facility in a truck and turned off the alarm. Inside, they loaded several pallets with boxes and jars. Bargalló states that they stole five and two liter bottles of extra virgin olive oil, soft oil and savory oil, as well as several boxes containing half liter bottles of OOVE Arbequina and green glass bottles. The thieves gained access to the offices and were also able to take the safe.

Bargalló himself reported the incident to the Mossos d'Esquadra, but also wanted to make future customers and dealers aware of the sale of the stolen bottles and carafes: “The thieves will certainly use other means to bring the product to market.” either in street markets or when selling to restaurants and bars outside our usual market.” Bargalló has asked for cooperation to locate the stolen product and identify those responsible for the theft.

It is the second time in less than a year that Olis Bargalló has been the victim of a robbery. In April 2023, criminals broke into the premises but were unable to steal any products. “They planned it exactly on Monday. They are specialists and knew what they were doing, given the large quantities of oil crates that were stolen without anyone noticing or raising the alarm,” concluded the CEO.
