EARTHQUAKE – Aftershocks continued to be felt across the archipelago after the powerful earthquake that struck Taiwan on Sunday, September 18. In a video posted to Facebook, Tsai Ing-wen, President of Taiwan, warns of the danger of aftershocks. It was also time to observe the damage around the city of Yuli.

As you can see in the video at the top of the articleThe 6.8 magnitude earthquake destroyed the giant Gaoliao Bridge. According to the USGS, Institute of Geological Studies of the United States, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Taitung, nearly 90 kilometers from the Gaoliao Bridge.

Taiwan’s national fire brigade has confirmed one person has been killed by falling machinery at a cement factory in Yuli. The Ministry of Health announces that 79 people were injured.

The island lies at the junction between two tectonic plates, making the island of Taiwan more prone to earthquakes.
