The almost 1-year-old animal was found during a raid at Cereso State Penitentiary No. 3 in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.
One of the tattoos on the cat’s side reads “Hecho en Mexico” or “made in Mexico” in French. It would be the logo of the cartel that prisoners of the Los Mexicles criminal group are associated with.
Aside from the tattoo, the cat reportedly had no injuries or infections. He is also “very sociable and in great shape,” according to an animal rights organization. He will meet his new family on March 1 at a ceremony organized by local authorities.

Who is the gang behind the tattoo?
Formed in 2009, the Los Mexicles gang is an ally of the Sinaloa Cartel, which is said to be fighting over the drug market with another organization, the Juárez Cartel.
Los Mexicles, one of the most violent criminal groups in the country, has 10,000 members, according to the Chihuahua state government.

The Los Mexicles gang would also control part of the drug market and arms trade in that northern Mexico state. The gang are also believed to be behind kidnappings in this region of Mexico.
