Walter Orthmann was born on April 19, 1922 in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. As a teenager, his family ran into financial difficulties. To help his parents, he applied to a weaving mill now known as ReneauxView. Thanks to his mastery of the German language, the 16-year-old young man won in 1938 “A job as a forwarding assistant”, reports NPR, the American public radio, on its website.
