Former Disney Channel star Bridgit Mendler is now the head of a startup specializing in space technology.
The actress and singer, who starred opposite Selena Gomez in “Wizards of Waverly Place,” announced on Monday on X that she is now CEO of the company Northwood Space, which she founded with her husband and a partner.
“At Northwood Space, we envision building an information highway between Earth and space. We are designing shared terrestrial infrastructure from the ground up to expand access to space. We still have a lot of work to do, but that’s the fun,” the 31-year-old Harvard and MIT graduate wrote on X on Monday.
In an interview with CNBC, Bridgit Mendler said she “completely fell in love with space law” while working in the Federal Communications Commission's Space Office in the United States.
Northwood aims to mass produce ground stations. These stations, also called teleports, are typically large, often circular antennas that connect to satellites in space. They make communication between Earth and space more fluid.
Bridgid Mendler became known in the early 2000s through the series Jonas. At the age of 17, she became one of the Disney Channel's main characters when she landed the lead role in the series Good Luck Charlie.
She then appeared in the films Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Chihuahuas of Beverly Hills as well as in the series Nashville.
