Real estate investor Luc Poirier just pulled off a masterstroke by selling land in 2015 for $20 million, more than $240 million, to Swedish company Northvolt, which bought it with a repayable loan from Quebec.
According to documents seen by Le Journal, eight years ago Luc Poirier took possession of the land containing 318 football fields in Saint-Basile-le-Grand and McMasterville in Montérégie.
It was sold on Halloween to the Swedish company Northvolt, which plans to build its mega-factory there with 3,000 workers.
We do not know what profits have been made from any investments and/or other decontamination work that may have been carried out.
“For those wondering, this is also the new record in Quebec history for largest land sale,” Luc Poirier said on Facebook.

The Journal was unable to contact Luc Poirier on Wednesday. His Quartier MC2 group, which is selling the property with him, declined our interview requests.
In Saint-Basile-le-Grand (82% of the country) the municipal tax is $1.6 million and in McMasterville (18% of the country) it is $7.8 million, for a total of 9.4 million US dollars.

Luc Poirier, billionaire?
Last year, Le Journal reported that former Occupation Double contestant Luc Poirier was just shy of becoming a billionaire.
Interviewed by a real estate agent on the social network TikTok, he said his net worth was “between $500 million and a billion.”
He had mentioned that he thought he would become a billionaire in the “next few years.”
