The referee has ruled: Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov will be awarded $3.55 million in 2023-2024.
Sportsnet hockey expert Elliotte Friedman learned this on Sunday, two days after the 26-year-old athlete’s arbitration session.
Last week, the same source reported that the Queen City club bid $2.4 million for the goalkeeper while the latter asked for $4.9 million.
Samsonov joined the Maple Leafs via the free agent market prior to last season. He signed a one-year deal worth $1.8 million.
The masked man had a 27-10-5 record in his first round with the Toronto side with 2.33 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. In the playoffs, the Russian faced Joseph Woll for four games. In the nine games he played during the Spring Dance, he averaged a 3.13 GAA and an .898 RAA.

Friedman also learned that an arbiter had ruled in the case of Chicago Blackhawks forward Philip Kurashev.
The latter received a two-year contract that allows him $2.25 million per season.

Kurashev, 23, was the Blackhawks’ fourth-round pick (120th overall) in the 2018 draft. He has played 191 games on the Bettman Circuit.
