Beyond the price of the dollar taken Chances are that $1 bill you have laying around is worth a fortune Thanks to a little rarity. Like which?
The world of coin and banknote collecting is being inundated with copies that are either due to a design flaw or because it belongs to a certain seriesor to have a certain brand they require a very important value.
Of the bills that can be found on the Internet, the $1 bills are perhaps the most desirable. Most can cost a few thousand pesos, 10 or 20 times their face value, but there is one $1 bill that stands out from the rest.
A Mercado Libre user is offering a very special $1 bill for two and a half million pesos, that is, to more than 5000 dollars. But what does it have to cost so much?
This specimen is from a series dating from 1957. On the obverse, to the left of George Washington’s face, it bears the number 1 and the inscription “This certificate is legal tender for all debts, public and private”. On the right side is not the inscription “one”, but “Washington DC” and the blue sealwhich makes it more distinctive.
However, this particular design of the $1 bill is not the only one found on the platform, although it belongs to a different series. Numismatist José Tellez’s shop has a similar example but from 1935 for almost $45,500.
For their part, the local Kurchan Philately and Numismatics has a $1 bill from last year and is selling it for more than $41,000. The distinctive detail in this case is the design on the backwhich has no figure or landscape, just the word “ONE” and the sentence “one dollar” above it.
