Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers is in trouble for betting on sports, including his team’s games.
ESPN announced on Monday that the NFL was investigating the 25-year-old athlete. He then admitted his wrongdoing in a message posted to his Twitter account.

“I take full responsibility for my actions,” he said. I know I made mistakes and I am willing to do anything to rectify the situation. The last thing I want is to distract the Colts organization, my coaches and my teammates.”
“I made a mistake and I will work hard to rectify the situation. It’s an honor to play in the NFL and I never took that for granted. I’m really sorry for all of this.
In the NFL, players are apparently forbidden from betting on the outcome of games played on the track. A league athlete cannot bet on competitions once at his team’s facilities.
Is there a severe penalty?
Rodgers made bets from an employee’s account. He would have made about a hundred bets, most of which would have been between $25 and $50. However, the footballer would have made at least one $1,000 bet.
Drafted in the sixth round of the 2020 auction, Rodgers has played and returned in more than 40% of the Colts’ defensive games over the past two seasons. He will play the final year of his rookie contract this season. This should allow him to receive $3.4 million.
Given these revelations, it would be surprising if the University of Massachusetts product played a single game in 2023. Last year, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games in which his team was not involved. He missed the entire 2022 campaign and is currently going through the process that will allow him to return to action soon.
The Goodell Circle could also opt for a “Pete Rose” sentence in the Rodgers case. In 1989, Major League Baseball banned the Cincinnati Reds manager for life for betting on his team’s games.
