POLICE – The undercover mission is not trivial. A team of Peruvian police officers, one of whom dressed as Santa Claus to “stay unnoticed,” carried out an operation against a gang of drug dealers in a town north of Lima, authorities reported Dec. 23.

These agents managed to surprise two men who were selling crack and marijuana in a house in Huaral, about 70 kilometers from the Peruvian capital, according to images and official press releases. “A member of the Terna (police) group dressed up as Santa Claus to go unnoticed in this dangerous area,” Col. Walter Palomino, head of the Green Squadron of the Peruvian National Police, told the press.

“This strategy was successful,” the official added. The police officer, wearing the traditional Santa Claus costume, took it upon himself to break down the front door and arrest one of the suspects.

One of the suspects nicknamed “Grinch”

During the operation, two men were arrested and hundreds of packages of crack and marijuana were seized, the value of which authorities have not yet determined. One of those arrested was introduced to the press under the pseudonym “The Grinch,” the name of a popular fictional character from an American cartoon.

For some time now, the Peruvian police have been regularly attacking suspected criminals under disguise and carrying out operations that they launch on special dates.

A similar action took place on October 31st on the occasion of Halloween, also against drug dealers. Drug trafficking is one of the crimes that has increased the most in Peru in recent years.
