The Arizona Coyotes have put forward Zack Kassian’s name on waivers to buy out the final year of his contract.
The 32-year-old hockey player was expected to sign a four-year contract worth $3.2 million a year in 2023-2024. He had initialed this contract with the Edmonton Oilers in January 2020.

The Alberta club sent him to the Yotes last summer along with a first-round pick in 2022, a third-round pick in 2024 and another second-round pick in the 2025 auction. The Oilers, meanwhile, had gotten their hands on a first-round pick in 2022.
In his only season in Arizona, Kassian scored twice in 51 games. He also had 50 penalty minutes and maintained a -18 rating.
Montreal Canadiens fans will remember the Windsor native for all the wrong reasons. The Habs acquired the Vancouver Canucks in July 2015. A few months later, before he could play a single regular season game for the Quebec team, he was involved in a traffic accident in the Our Lady of Grace neighborhood.
His vehicle, which he was not driving, crashed into a tree and the athlete was injured. He was later admitted to a rehab facility in Malibu and the HC traded him to the Oilers after completing therapy.
Additionally, Kassian isn’t the only player whose contract is being bought out by the Coyotes. This will also be the case for defender Patrik Nemeth.
The 31-year-old full-back was set to land a three-year deal that would net him $2.5 million a year.
